Wag The Bob

September 4th 2003 - Democrat MLC, Dr Arthur Chesterfield-Evans, said “I am disgusted that Bob Carr is using taxpayer’s money for propaganda to justify the construction of a coal fired power plant in Mudgee.”

He was referring to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald which detailed a media strategy by Carr government officials to target conservation groups and “upper house M.P.’s.”

“The Democrats know there is no need for a new coal fired power station to meet excess demand in NSW. We want broader demand-side management programmes and an independent regulator for the National Electricity Network.

“Regardless of Carr’s propaganda apparatus, the Democrats will not be swayed from our position.”

“Bob Carr is not only a fan of American History, but also of American political satire as well. This level of spin doctoring reminds me of the movie, “Wag the Dog.”

“I’m sure Bob Carr could pull off being Conrad Bream, played by Robert De Niro. However, I am unsure if Michael Egan could play Dustan Hoffman’s character.” Dr Chesterfield-Evans concluded.
