Nile Campaign: A Referedum on Religious Extremism

May 11th 2004 -

NSW Democrat MLC, Dr Arthur Chesterfield-Evans, has warned voters to exercise caution when casting their votes for the Senate in the next Federal Election after The Hon. Rev. Fred Nile MLC announced his plans to contest for the Senate.

"Although Reverend Nile's campaign slogan will be a "referendum on marriage", voters should also ask where he stands on the full privatization of Telstra or Medicare?"

"These are the issues he will be voting on and voters should be wary of his record on always siding with the government of the day when the numbers are tight!"

"Fred Nile represents a conservative right-wing view of the world and progressive liberal voters should cast their votes for NSW Democrats Senator Aden Ridgeway instead."

Dr Chesterfield-Evans said that Rev. Niles attack on The Greens will not only serve their interests in achieving more publicity, but also shows the growing level of extremism in Australian politics.

"The last NSW Senate seat will be contested between the far left and the extreme right. Voters will have to ask themselves if they want a Religious extremist operating in the Parliament, where there is meant to be a separation between church and state!" Dr Chesterfield-Evans concluded.
