< Back Hey Joe Ya Gotta Go June 16th 2006 NSW Democrat MLC, Dr Arthur Chesterfield-Evans has called on Joe Tripodi to resign after the Sydney Morning Herald alleged he was profiting from the sale of public housing today. While I appreciate Mr Tripodi has apparently written to I.C.A.C. inviting scrutiny into this issue, it still raises questions over his fitness to be a Minister of the Crown and his ability to represent the electorate of Fairfield, he said. As former chair of the Public Accounts Committee, he should have known that his share holdings in Westside Property Developments could be seen as a conflict of interest. As one of the top power brokers in the NSW Labor Right, Mr Tripodi, has survived relatively unscathed though controversial conduct in the past. But its time the Premier takes a stand for accountability and makes an example of Mr Tripodi by putting him in the sin-bin until I.C.A.C. conducts an investigation. Failure to do so would make the voters of N.S.W. question the integrity of the Labor Government. It may also give an incentive for Upper House Crossbenchers, like myself, to join with the Opposition and establish a Select Committee to get to the bottom of this. Dr Chesterfield-Evans concluded. |
